My History With Foreign Language
Foreign language has never been my forte. I took two years of Spanish in high school and did not do that well. I decided to try again with German in college — that turned out really bad. Third time is a charm, however, so I'm gonna give German another try.
How Does One Learn German?
I am guessing that my poor grades in college German we because I was playing video games in English, not German. This time things will be different. I went through my PS3 game collection to see which ones supported German. All my games are region 1 and my PS3 is a US system. Make sure to set your PS3 language to "German" as well.
The Games That Work
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Batman: Arkham Asylum supports German everything — menus, subtitles, and voice work.

Bulletstorm
Bulletstorm supports German everything — menus, subtitles, and voice work.

Dead Nation
The PSN game Dead Nation supports German menus and subtitles, but no German voice work.

Grand Theft Auto IV
GTA 4 supports German menus, subtitles, but no German voice work.

Heavenly Sword
Heavenly Sword supports a ton of languages, and German is one of them. It supports German menus, subtitles, and voice work.

Killzone 2
The German support in Killzone 2 is great. This makes sense as the developer, Guerrilla, is a European company.

Killzone 3
Just like Killzone 2, the German support in Killzone 3 is great. It supports German menus, subtitles, and voice work.

LA Noire
LA Noire supports German menus and subtitles.

Mass Effect 2
Mass Effect 2 supports German menus, subtitles, and voice work.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
Metal Gear Solid 4 supports German menus and subtitles, but not voice acting.

Portal 2
The German support in Portal 2 is great. It supports German menus, subtitles, and voice work.

Red Dead Redemption
Red Dead Redemption, much like the other Rockstar production (GTA IV), supports German menus and subtitles, but no German voice work.

Resident Evil 5
Resident Evil 5 supports German menus and subtitles, but not voice acting.

Resistance: Fall of Man
Resistance supports German everything — menus, subtitles, and voice acting. Very impressive for a PS3 launch title.

Resistance 2
Resistance 2, like its predecessor, supports German everything — menus, subtitles, and voice work.

Uncharted: Drakes Fortune
Uncharted supports German everything — menus, subtitles, and voice acting. Too bad #2 wasn't the same…

The Games That Have no German Support
The lack of German support for most of these games seems reasonable. However, I was really expecting it in God of War 3 and Uncharted 2. Both of these games are published by Sony and do quite well overseas. How hard can it be to shove some German subtitles on a 50GB Blu-ray?
